About Mata

Eduardo Mata Montessori School is a Dallas ISD transformation school, part of the district’s choice school initiative. Our school is one of seven public Montessori schools in Dallas ISD. As a school of choice:

  • We offer the same types of instructional approaches and themes as Montessori magnet schools, but do not have any academic entry requirements.
  • We are open to all students across the district, regardless of academic ability. However, enrollment preference will be given to students living in the immediate area.
  • We provide transportation within certain parameters.

Mata is a pre-K through eighth-grade campus with Primary, Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, and Middle School classrooms structured under the Montessori model. For information about applying to Mata Montessori, please visit our Admissions page.

What's in a name?

Our school is named after former conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Eduardo Mata. Eduardo Mata was born on Sept. 5, 1942 in Mexico City.

From 1977 to 1993, Mata was the music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the longest-serving music director in the DSO’s 110-year history. Mata was a pivotal role model in the city of Dallas, inspiring young Hispanic musicians, introducing Dallas students to classical music and preserving music education in schools. In his honor, Dallas ISD established the Eduardo Mata Elementary School in 1997.
